In Sucre we heard about a place where you can go and spend the night in a small Bolivian town. It sounded like fun so three of us when.
The transportation in this part of the world gets basic. The most basic form is in the back of a 5 ton truck, which is the only way to get out to Candrelaria. Most of the locals using these trucks are also transporting goods to and from town, so you wind up riding on someones potatoes or next to someones tomatoes.
The trucks are open and stop for anybody who wants a ride. They pick people up even if the truck appears to be crammed full. The truck we took to return was headed for a popular market and we guessed that there were more than 80 people on the truck, but you would never get an official count.
Candrelaria was worth the trip. The family that let us the room was very nice and the area was glorious.
The husband and sons were harvesting there wheat field up on the mountain. We went up to visit and they let us help with the harvest for a while. It is amazing that people still use a sickle in this millennium.
We explored some of the surrounding mountains, all of which have been inhabited. The locals seem to attempt to plant a crop wherever it can grow. Pictures to come.
