I just got back from Torres del Paine. It is a a national Chilean park near the South end of the continent known for the Torres del Paine among other things.
The park is well known with hikers from around the world and they all seemed to be there. The park does not have any control over the number of people entering the park and most campsites and trails were crowded. Besides this and the weather, I still had fun. I hiked most of the time with a guy from Oregon who´s friend wanted to get out of the bad weather.
And the weather was bad. The first night the wind was almost blowing peoples tents away. The second day it rained steady. We hiked 3 hours of washed out trails to camp in a soggy campground, were it continued to rain.
But, it was all worthwhile, the fourth day I was in the park the weather was gorgeous. This was the day the we had to hike the Torres, as I got some good pictures of it. I will try to get my pictures uploaded in a week or two.
The day I left the park the wind was howling again. It sounds like this weather pattern is normal down here.

I just received your site address from Jill (I kept asking Mom but she didn't remember it as it came up automatically on her screen!!). Your site is fabulous - the photos are amazing and I am enjoying your short stories. It is a great way for me to see this part of the world because I know these treks are not for me!!
